To provide better working conditions to the fisherman of Karnataka state the Chief Minister of Karnataka state that is Mr. BS Yediyurappa on Thursday in the Legislative Assembly announced this scheme known as the Karnataka Matsya Vikasa Yojana. The Chief Minister proposed to implement the newly announced ‘Karnataka Matsya Vikasa Yojana” to encourage fishermen to adopt modern fishing technologies. It is suspected that through the implementation of the scheme, the fishermen will be able to increase profit by adopting modern techniques which will be beneficial in increasing the sales and catching of fishes.

Features Of The Scheme

There are many features which will be provided to all of the residents of the Karnataka state through the implementation of the scheme known as the Karnataka Matsya Vikasa Yojana:-

  • A new fish harbour will be constructed at Kulayi in Mangaluru taluk for augmenting the exports of this region.
  • Also, a modern Coastal Fish Export Plant would be established at an expenditure of Rs.12.50 crore, under the Sagaramala Project of the Central Government and in partnership with the State Government.
  • A backwater fish seedlings production centre would be established at Mulki at an expenditure of Rs. 2 crores.
  • Two-wheelers will be provided to 1000 fisher-women under the “Mahila Meenugara Sabaleekarana” scheme.
  • The government has proposed to construct a fishing harbour in Hejamadikodi of Udupi District with the partnership of the Central Government at an expenditure of Rs.181 crore as per the revised estimates.

Benefits Of Matsya Vikasa Yojana

The main benefits that will be provided to the fishermen of the Karnataka state are of modern techniques. The fishermen will be able to increase sales and production of the fishes to a level that it will become more profitable for them even at the level of the same hard work that they are doing now. As we all know that in India the technological development is very less so through the implementation of these incentives and benefits by the concerned government the fishermen will be increasing the sales in a very easy manner. The scheme will also help in strengthening the backwater fishing.

Implementation Of The Scheme

This scheme will be implemented at an expenditure of Rs. 5 crores as said by the concerned authorities of the Karnataka government. The Hangarakatte harbour of the Udupi district will be developed at an expenditure of Rs.130 crore and also for the development of the fishing harbours at selective areas. Also to develop the structures in Karwar in Uttara Kannada district Rs. 4 crores will be provided. The works of the second phase of the outer harbours under construction at Maravanthe in Byndoor Taluk of Udupi District will be completed at an expenditure of Rs.85 crore and will be made available for use by fishermen. Rs. 2 crores will be provided for the development works in the Koderi fishing harbour of the Udupi district.
