The Central government and many state governments together started the Padhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Enterprises PM FME Scheme on 29 June 2020. Under this scheme, farmer-producer organizations, self-help groups, and producer cooperatives will be receiving financial aid from the government in form of incentives. An Rs. 10,000 crore scheme, will be implemented for five years until 2024-25. With the help of this scheme, the government will be providing financial help to the individual units. About PM FME Scheme 2022

Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Enterprises (PM FME) is part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. It is expected that around 9 lakh skilled and semi-skilled jobs will be created by this scheme. The government launched this scheme with a motive to formalize the unorganized segment of the food processing industry. A centrally sponsored scheme will help in coming up with the new technology. It will also help small entrepreneurs to enter new markets. The scheme will open gates for many employment opportunities.

According to this scheme, the micro-enterprises will be getting a 35% subsidy on project costs, with a limit of Rs 10 lakh. The enterprisers must invest a minimum of 10% of the project cost and the rest amount will be arranged from loans. It is estimated that the government will provide credit-linked subsidy support to around 200,000 micro-enterprises. The expenses that will be incurred at the time of implementing this scheme will be shared in a 60:40 ratio between Central and state governments, a 901:0 ratio with North-eastern and the Himalayan States, a 60:40 ratio with union territories with the legislature, and a 100% by the center for other union territories.

Objectives of the PM FME Scheme

The main aim to launch this scheme is to formalize the micro units of food processing. Eligibility Criteria of Individual Micro Enterprises

  • The micro-enterprise should be in operation.
  • The business person has to spend 10% of the project cost himself, and the balance will be arranged for a loan from the bank.
  • The age of the applicant must be 18 years.
  • Only one person from the family is allowed to take benefit of the Scheme.
  • Individuals should have cleared at least 8th class.
  • Only proprietorship or partnership firms are allowed to take benefit of the PM FME Scheme.
  • Also, the proprietorship or partnership firms must have ownership rights of the enterprise.
  • It is necessary that the enterprise should be incorporated, and should have a minimum of 10 workers.
  • According to the scheme, the cost of land under the scheme should be excluded from the cost of the project.
  • The micro-enterprise must be involved in food processing activities.
